The candidate must be a veterinarian who has completed a 1 year rotating internship or 2 years working full-time in veterinary practice after graduation.
The Education & Credentials Committee and the ECVCP Board will evaluate each candidate's work experience on a case by case basis. The decision made by the committee as to whether the candidate's experience is acceptable or not is final.
At an ECVCP approved laboratory that has an approved training programme. The training programme may be a standard or alternative programme.
You must be a member of the European Society of Veterinary Clinical Pathology (ESVCP) during your residency.
At the end of each year, you will submit an activity log detailing all your duties, presentations given, courses or presentations attended, meetings or congresses attended, rounds and journal clubs, teaching, publications and research, and mandatory and voluntary externships. You must also provide proof that you have completed your externships and your supervisor will provide an annual progress report.
An externship is a short-term training experience that takes place at a laboratory or facility that is different from the training laboratory where you are completing your residency. Each resident must complete the mandatory externships. Residents are also encouraged to take part in voluntary externships in order to broaden their training experience.
Each resident must attend at least one ECVCP Summer School and one ESVCP/ECVCP Congress during their residency. For some residents, other externships may be mandatory depending on their training programme. These additional mandatory externships are specific to a training programme and are designed to compensate for any deficiencies in that programme.
This depends on what training programme you are enrolled in.
The standard training programme takes a minimum of 36 months, which must be completed within 5 consecutive years.
The alternative programme takes a minimum of 48 months, which must be completed within 6 consecutive years.
This will depend on your supervisor and the laboratory where you are receiving your training. However, all correspondence with the ECVCP board and committees, the ESVCP congresses, Summer School, and ECVCP board examinations (Phases 1 and 2) will be in English.
